Telling the same stories over and over is tiresome, and it’s difficult to meet each friend’s enthusiasm in kind on the seventh, eighth and umpteenth time around a narrative. You’ll generally have the telling down pat by the third or fourth run through- you’ll have generally heard as much insight as you need or your friends will collectively have to offer by then as well.
Thus, what point is there to unpacking a well tread story?
